How are students building their technology knowledge?
How has technology in combination with best practices affected student engagement?
Akili scholars build their technical knowledge in a variety of ways, from hands-on in-class activities in core subjects, as well as tech and music technology enrichment, and independent exploration.
Clear expectations around technology and mindful usage of technology tools help to keep student engagement high.
Additionally, every adult shares responsibility in device care and safety, and our school norms dictate that devices are always seen in cases when not in use and that teachers regularly leverage Securly.com for screen monitoring.
School IT and VILS Coach regularly assess Securly to ensure students are being safe and responsible with their devices.
Guiding Questions:
How are families empowered to support their children at home?
Families have access to our data managment platform, SchoolRunner their child's Clever SSO, SchoolRunner, and Google Classroom.
Akili's website has a provides family resource page with several helpful tools in multiple languages, including troubleshooting guides and the technology handbook, which help to reinforce device care expectations at our school.
How did you support technology literacy in your community? What does technology support look like for your parents?
A plan is in the works at our school (and network) that the coaches have been working across campuses to offer zoom meetings in which parents can learn about different topics, and receive general support, ask questions, etc. Akili, Tubman and Habans are also currently in the process of working with a local outside partner on tech-based lessons for families.
