100 YEAR HERITAGE EVENT
Our 100 Year Heritage event was a huge success thanks to the incredible efforts made by our families and staff. To mark a whole century of Devonshire Hill, we invited our diverse community to come together and celebrate with home made food from around the world.
There were so many delicious dishes on offer, with sweet and savoury treats from Brasil, Bulgaria, Congo, Cyprus, England, Germany, Greece, India, Jamaica, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turkey to name just a few!
So many supportive families joined the event which created an amazing sense of togetherness and belonging. The Dining Hall was filled with conversation as people enjoyed tasting new dishes from a menu of spanakopita, pão de queijo, mac and cheese, rice and peas, dumplings, plantain, afternoon tea cakes, turkish delights, puff puffs, spiced bun, rice pudding and more!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who shared their time, culinary talents, and enthusiasm. Your generosity helped our school to raise a total of £136.67. Whether you cooked a dish, helped with setup or cleanup, or simply came along to join in the celebration, you played a vital part.
We are already looking forward to planning our next event, and would love to hear from our families if you have any ideas, suggestions, or would like to host our next activity.
SPOOKY AUTUMN DISCO
What a fantastic, fun-filled day we had at our Spooky Autumn Disco. The Main Hall was transformed, by our generous parent/carer volunteers, into a fantastic autumnal display. The children were buzzing with excitement as they danced under the disco lights in their brilliant autumn and spooky themed costumes.
This year was the best effort yet with some very unique and impressive costumes, across the day we spotted witches and wizards, fairies and dinosaurs, skeletons, pirates, and mermaids. The creativity didn't stop there, we had a fantastic display of carved and decorated pumpkins as well as beautiful autumn art.
Congratulations to the children who were awarded for The Most Creative Outfit and the Best Autumn Art or Pumpkin. This year’s incredible efforts made it particularly tricky to choose some winners.
Thank you to everyone who generously donated for this exciting event, the £95.96 raised will go directly toward enhancing our future activities.
DAZZLING DANCERS
A number of our talented Year 6 children recently attended a very special event to perform as part of Dance Giants. The talented dancers took centre stage as part of a very special performance at the New Deal For Young People Celebration. The occasion, attended by the Mayor's office, was all about celebrating the amazing work and opportunities created for young people across London.
Our young dancers were dedicated to putting on a dazzling performance, they were a shining example of the talent and potential that can be achieved by young people growing up in London and of the Successful Learners from Devonshire Hill. Their energy, enthusiasm, and talented moves were a testament to the hard work from the weekly rehearsals. We would like to say a huge congratulations to everyone who took part and thank you to Streetz Ahead for offering this incredible opportunity to our Successful Learners!
HEAD BOY & HEAD GIRL
Our newly elected Head Boy and Head Girl are already working very hard to fulfil their important responsibilities which include; looking extremely smart in their brand new blazer tie, supporting at School Council meetings, assisting Ms D’Abreu in KS1 Celebration Assembly and collecting the weekly house points. They are very excited about being appointed, telling us ‘we are honoured to have such an opportunity to grow and be more confident...we are delighted to be on the School Council…and we're looking forward to what the future holds’.
The Head Boy and Head Girl were carefully selected from a number of fantastic applicants. They were chosen based on their strong written statement and their active participation in the school community such as; competitions, homelearning, the Headteacher’s Awards, and attendance. Remember to say hello to them the next time you see them in the corridor or the playground, they are there to support children to share their ideas and suggestions.
CYCLING CHAMPIONS
We're so proud of the children who participated in the first round of the Haringey Schools Cycling League! This is a brand new sporting event for our school, and our young cyclists showed fantastic determination.
To kick off the league, our team tackled a tricky uphill challenge which was timed. This activity offered a gentle introduction to the competitive nature and unique format of the league. Every rider gave it their absolute best, representing our school with superb effort and sportsmanship. Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to the parents and carers who kindly volunteered their time to support at the event.
We are still looking for additional female cyclists to join our team! If you are a girl in Year 4 - Year 6 and you enjoy cycling, we would love for you to join round 2.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
What a fantastic month of learning and celebration we've had across the school for Black History Month! It's been wonderful to see our pupils engaging with history, culture, and creativity.
A highlight has been the fantastic art created by children in Year 2, who painted colourful portraits of the legendary musician, Bob Marley while listening to his music. During their English lessons children Year 1 produced some fantastic written work inspired by Floella Benjamin, Ruby Bridges and Rosa Parks.
Meanwhile, Year 5 and Year 6 enjoyed a very special Black History Month themed performance starring pupils from Mulberry Woodside. This was an excellent opportunity for our pupils to explore the important contributions and stories of black figures throughout history in an exciting, live format.
PIZZA PARTY
This term, we held our biggest and most delicious pizza party to date!
Well done to the 30 children who were invited because of their much improved punctuality and attendance. Their dedication to being in school and on time is truly paying off!
The celebration was packed with fun energy, including bright party hats, exciting games, lots of dancing, and of course, a delicious pizza feast. It was a wonderful way to reward the children for their hard work.
We have already started tracking who will earn a spot on the guest list for the next attendance celebrations. Remember to prioritise great attendance and punctuality across the Autumn Term to be in for an opportunity to join the next party!
CELEBRATING SUCCESS
Congratulations to all children who have received an award so far this term. We have celebrated so many fantastic achievements including 100% Attendance, Most Improved Attendance, Anchor Awards, Curriculum Awards and we have even presented the first Yellow Star Awards of the 2025/26 academic year.
Our Celebration Assemblies offer a fantastic opportunity for families to come along and find out all about the success of all children within our school.
It has been brilliant to see so many new and familiar faces in our audience, helping our children to develop their confidence and to feel proud of their achievements. If you have not yet joined us, please do come along, children in Year 3 to Year 6 celebrate every Monday at 9am, and children in Year 1 and Year 2 celebrate every Friday at 9am.
