The French sent troops to help the Americans in the Fall of 1781. The French troops landed in Rhode Island. They were meeting up with the American Patriots to help take back New York City from the British. The last significant battle of the American Revolution took place near Jamestown at a town known as Yorktown, Virginia.
The Americans and French surrounded the British, blocking off the entire Chesapeake Bay. The siege prevented any supplies or reinforcements from reaching the British. The British saw that they could not win and they surrendered. The Patriots had won the Battle of Yorktown. The war was almost over.
