A few weeks after the incident at Fort Sumter and the incident in Baltimore, the Governor of Tennessee called for a second vote on secession. This time, on June 8th, 1861 the people of Tennessee voted to leave the United States and join the Confederate States.
Three other southern states along with Tennessee decided to join the Confederacy: Virginia, North Carolina, & Arkansas.
They joined South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas who had officially formed the Confederate States of America a few months earlier in February.
These 11 southern states organized a new government with a Capital, a Constitution, a Congress, and a new President.
