Cultural Competency Activities
Activity 1: Dealing with Gossip: Using the corresponding resource, help learners understand the impact gossip has on others and the name it creates for themselves.
Activity 2: Body Language Can Be Baffling: This activity walks learners through how different gestures can mean different things in different cultures and helps us all become a little more culturally aware of our surroundings and peers.
Activity 3: Calendar of Cultures: This research activity helps learners become familiar with holidays and celebrations that may vary from their own beliefs.
Activity 4: Advantages of the Melting Pot: This activity has learners learning the local impact of immigrants in their own communities.
Activity 5: Problem Swap: Using the corresponding resource, have learners learn about different scenarios and discuss their thoughts and responses to different situations.
Mentor Moments
MM1: Design a Book Cover: In groups of three learners will learn how to work together see everyone's skills and how to play off everyone in their groups strengths to create the best possible design.
MM2: Diversity Bingo: Learners will learn more about their classmates in this BINGO-esque game. (requires Corresponding Resource)
MM3: Reality Relay Race: This collaboration activity requires learners working together to solve tasks blindfolded. It build strength and trust amongst members. (Active)
MM4: Celebrity Dream Team: Learners work together, with their knowledge of pop-culture, to create a dream concert venue - one catch - all the acts must be diverse!
