Learn fly fishing in the Boulder Watershed, mastering casting, fly tying, and fish ecology. Study stream environments, fish behavior, and watershed conservation while fishing in local rivers. With guidance from Rocky Mountain Anglers, practice reading currents and handling fish responsibly. Discussions on urban creek restoration and conservation efforts enhance awareness. Fishing equipment is provided, and all experience levels are welcome for this outdoor educational experience.
The Upper School Fly Fishing Winterim is off to an auspicious (if windy) start. We spent Monday in the classroom, getting fitted for waders and boots and learning the basics of building a fly line. We even tied our own flies, using purple-dyed squirrel fur to simulate a leech. On Tuesday we hit the water with our guides from Rocky Mountain Anglers, fishing the clear pools of Boulder Creek, toward the bottom of Boulder Canyon in the morning and just above Eben G. Fine Park in the afternoon. Tomorrow we return to Boulder Creek ready to brave whatever the weather has in store for us.
