Here we are enjoying a presentation from CU Boulder's Exploratory Studies staff, our favorite - Mr. Marshall!! Students learned about the Program in Exploratory Studies and met with college advisors - took a personality quiz - toured CU and enjoyed lunch in their C4C dining hall. Here's to a great Winterim!!!
Hello from San Fran!
After a long delayed flight and late check in to our hotel yesterday, we started our Winterim with two college visits in the heart of the city. Driving up and down the steep hills of San Fran - catching views of the bay, ocean and awesome architecture has been fun. Our first college tour and admissions q & a was at the California College of the Arts.
Our next stop was the University of San Francisco - ranked #1 in 2024 for campus diversity! For lunch we ate in one of the University of San Francisco's dining halls, attended an information session and had a wonderful tour. We then drove to the wharf, checked in to our hotel, grabbed dinner and said hello to some sea lions.
Tomorrow we meet up with the California Monuments Winterim for a self guided tour of University of California - Berkeley. Excited for a second full day in CA!
The skies cleared and day 2 was a 10/10. Our winterim group started with a delicious breakfast at a local coffee shop - crepes, acai bowls and lattes were had by all. We then hopped a historic street car from Fisherman's Wharf to the BART. We traveled via public transit to Berkeley, CA and met up with Ms. Bauer, Mr. Lynch and the Monuments Winterim for a tour and lunch on campus at UC Berkeley. We were met by Mrs. Morissettes' high school pal, Dr. B - a local therapist who received her masters and doctorate from Berkeley. Dr. B also taught and mentored students athletics at the university.
We enjoyed wandering around Telegraph Ave. before heading back to Fisherman's Wharf. A beautiful 60 degrees, three of our winterim students were brave enough to throw on their bathing suits and have a quick swim in the bay before dinner.
Early to bed tonight, as we have a boat to catch to Alcatraz at 8am!
Our final day in San Francisco did not disappoint. An early morning boat ride over to Alcatraz Island - (a favorite memory of Mrs. Morissette's high school trips) for a walking and audio tour. We then grabbed In-N-Out Burger and drove 1.5 hours south to Santa Clara, CA. Once there, we met up with Dawson School alum, Charlie Heathwood '24. We walked around the beautiful campus before checking into our hotel. It was great to hear from Charlie and see him doing so well.
Excellent visit to San Jose State University and a walk around Stanford University. Then ended a great day - with a waterview - at Top Golf!! We are excited to head back to Colorado but the Bay Area has treated us well!
