Read-a-thon: Reading around the world!

📚 Get Ready for Our Read-A-Thon! 🌎

We’re excited to announce Prestonwood Montessori’s upcoming Read-A-Thon: Reading Around the World, happening September 11–19! During this special week, students will journey across different countries through books, track their daily reading minutes, and collect passport stamps along the way. Families and friends are encouraged to support our readers by making pledges, with all proceeds going toward enhancing our school programs. Together, we’ll celebrate the joy of reading while building a strong foundation for our community.

¡Estamos muy emocionados de anunciar el Read-A-Thon: Leyendo Alrededor del Mundo de Prestonwood Montessori, que se llevará a cabo del 11 al 19 de septiembre! Durante esta semana especial, los estudiantes viajarán por diferentes países a través de los libros, registrarán sus minutos de lectura diarios y coleccionarán sellos en su pasaporte. Our Read A Thon is coming up, and we need books for our school wide book swap!

Join us on Thursday, Sept. 11, 8:00–9:00am for a special morning of reading fun! Parents will enjoy a teacher read-aloud, read with their child, and play a literacy game together. 🌍

✅ Check-in starts at 7:15 in the library

Instructional Update: Progress Monitoring

This week during Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Ms. Low and Ms. Rhodes reviewed and modeled our campus progress monitoring system and student data tracking with teachers. As part of this system, students in 3rd–6th grade now have green data folders where they record their progress as they prepare for STAAR. Many teachers have already met one-on-one with their students to review i-Ready Beginning of Year data and/or last year’s STAAR data, helping them set goals and discuss concrete steps to reach them.

At home, you can reinforce these important conversations by:

Asking your child to show you their green data folder and explain what they are tracking.
Talking with your child about the goal they set and why it matters to them.
Celebrating small wins when your child meets a milestone or shows growth.
Encouraging your child to practice skills daily—such as reading for 20 minutes or reviewing math facts.
Reminding them that hard work and persistence are key to success.

Together, we can help our students take ownership of their learning and build confidence in their progress!

We are excited to announce an upcoming Parent Resource Workshop designed to help families stay connected and engaged with their child’s education. During this session, parents will have the opportunity to learn how to:

Navigate PowerSchool
Use ClassDojo
Communicate through TalkingPoints (for middle school)
Access and explore our weekly newsletters: The Pupdate and The Walker Wolfpack

This workshop is a great way to build confidence in using these tools and to strengthen the home-to-school connection. We encourage all parents who are interested to join us!
