Over the past two weeks, our students participated in Mock STAAR assessments in Reading and Math, with our 5th grade students also taking a Mock Science STAAR. These practice assessments are an important tool in helping us measure student progress and ensure they are on track for success.
We are incredibly proud of how well our students performed. When scored using the same standards as the official STAAR, our campus demonstrated strong overall performance. This reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the continued support from our families.
Now that results are in, teachers are carefully reviewing the data with students. They are identifying specific TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) that need additional reinforcement and providing targeted instruction to strengthen those areas. Over the next several weeks, our focus will be on small-group support, reteaching key standards, and giving students multiple opportunities to practice and build confidence before the official STAAR administration.
How Families Can Help at Home:
Encourage daily reading (at least 20–30 minutes) and ask your child questions about what they read.
Practice math facts and review problem-solving strategies.
Have your child explain how they solved a math problem or how they found evidence in a reading passage.
Ensure your child gets plenty of rest and arrives at school on time each day.
Offer encouragement and remind them that effort and perseverance lead to growth.
We are excited about the progress our students are making and are confident that, with continued focus and partnership between school and home, they will be well-prepared and successful on STAAR. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Head lice are common among school-aged children and can occur at any time during the year. We are sharing this information to help families understand how to identify, treat, and prevent head lice, as well as to clarify our school’s procedures.
How to Identify Head Lice
Families are encouraged to check their child’s hair periodically, especially if your child is experiencing symptoms.
Signs of head lice may include:
Frequent or persistent itching of the scalp
A tickling sensation in the hair
Live lice crawling on the scalp (they are small, about the size of a sesame seed)
Nits (lice eggs) that are firmly attached to the hair shaft, often close to the scalp
It is important to note that lice are not always white. Live lice may appear tan, brown, or grayish, depending on lighting and hair color. Nits are usually yellow, tan, or brown and may look similar to dandruff; however, unlike dandruff, nits are firmly attached to the hair shaft and do not easily brush off. Unlike dandruff, nits do not easily brush off. Careful inspection in bright light and using a fine-tooth comb can help with identification. If you find lice, please email Nurse Becan at sbecan@dallasisd.org and notify your primary health provider.
If Your Child Has Head Lice
If lice are identified on your child, you will be contacted by the school nurse or office staff the same day. We will share guidance on treatment and answer any questions you may have.
Students in your child’s classroom will also receive a general notification so families can check their own children at home. Individual student names are kept confidential. Our priority is to partner with families, provide accurate information, and handle each situation with care, privacy, and respect.

Spring Events Update
This past Saturday’s Dance was such a fun and successful event. We loved seeing our community come together and our kids having a blast!
Since events like this require tremendous planning and volunteer support to run smoothly, we’ve made the tough call not to include Wheelie Fun Night in our Spring calendar of events this year. We’re excited to share that there are still plenty of fun community events planned this Spring! We hope to see everyone at all of the upcoming PTO Spring events!
