Intro to 2D Art

This is a foundational art class in which students build knowledge and skills in two-dimensional artistic media, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage. Students will explore elements and principles of art, compositions, color theory, drawing from observation, and art as it relates to history and culture.
Students will develop ways to express their point of view through reflective brainstorming and critique activities.
Intermediate 2D Art
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: C or better in Intro to 2D Art or Art Portfolio Review
This class further develops concepts learned in the Intro to 2D Art course and extends knowledge of artistic technique and historical content. A variety of media will be used, possibly including but not limited to graphite, charcoal, ink, colored pencil, printmaking, pastel, mixed media, watercolor paint, and acrylic paint. Students will further develop their abilities to critically problem-solve, analyze, brainstorm, and reflect on their own artwork and the artwork of others. (Intermediate 2D Art was formerly called Advanced 2D Art).
Intro to 3D Art
Length: 1 semester

This course deals with the 3-dimensional form. Class will include elements of design, art history, critiques, and aesthetics. Students will create 3-dimensional art using a variety of materials that include, but are not limited to, ceramics, mixed media, and recycled materials.
Intermediate 3D Art

Prerequisite: C or better in Intro to 3D Art or Art Portfolio Review
The objective of this course is to allow students to develop skills learned in Intro 3D Art and introduce new sculptural techniques and media. Students will focus on creating more in-depth projects - in both size and level of difficulty. Projects will encompass a wide variety of media such as clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, plastic, wood, etc. This class is studio based and includes art history and art criticism. Digital Photography I
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to offer students a basic understanding of photography taken with a digital camera. Photographs will be manipulated using Adobe Photoshop and other industry standard programs. An overview of current social and career awareness as it pertains to the media will also be discussed. Cultural and appreciative aspects of photography will be incorporated in this course through instructional resources and production experiences. This class may be eligible for articulated college credit upon completion of all requirements.
Digital Photography II
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: B or better in Digital Photography I
This course will expand upon the beginning digital photography class. It will focus on digital photography in terms of design and communication factors including color, visual design, lighting, graphics, and aesthetics. An overview of current social and career awareness as it pertains to the media will also be discussed.
Cultural and appreciative aspects of photography will be incorporated in this course through instructional resources and production experiences.
Graphic Design I
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: None
This course allows students to explore the use of tools, computer graphic techniques and design layout principles to produce professional graphic design. Students will be introduced to Adobe CS and will include printing basics, typography, digital color systems and creative thinking. Projects may include, but are not limited to, logo design, posters, t-shirt graphics, packaging design and more. This class may be eligible for articulated college credit upon completion of all requirements.
Graphic Design II
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: C or better in Graphic Design I or Art Portfolio Review
This course will expand on the graphic design principles learned in Graphic Design I. Students will continue growth in Adobe CS and will add more advanced techniques in those programs. Projects may include, but are not limited to, magazine layout, logo design, t-shirt graphics, and more. This class may be eligible for articulated college credit upon completion of all requirements.
Digital Art
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: C or better in Graphic Design 1 or Art Portfolio Review
This class further develops concepts learned in Graphic Design 1, but with a focus on the Adobe Photoshop component. Students will continue mastery of photo manipulation techniques and will add the new skill of digital painting with the use of Wacom tablets. This class will combine basic traditional art techniques, like painting, with Adobe Photoshop techniques. This class may be eligible for college credit upon completion of all requirements.
Painting
Length: 1 semester

Prerequisite: C or better in Intermediate 2D Art or Art Portfolio Review
Students will continue the fundamentals of composition, art elements, principles of design and developmental skills. Materials used for painting representational, expressive, or abstracted images include, but are not limited to, tempera, watercolor, oils, and acrylic paints. Students will experience art history through aesthetics and criticism through varied instructional media and resources.
AP Studio Art

Prerequisite: Intro to 2D Art & Advanced 2D or Intro to 3D Art & Advanced 3D or Graphic Design I & Graphic Design II or Digital Photo I & Digital Photo II or Art Portfolio Review
AP Studio Art is a course based on the production of a portfolio (Drawing; 2D Design; or 3D Design). The student wills select the concentration portfolio that they are creating from the three categories listed. The course is conducted in an independent study format, with assignments designed, supervised and guided by the instructor.
