Intro to Computers

This course introduces the basic concepts of computer applications in business. Students use and integrated software program to explore computer applications on an advanced level, including desktop publishing, databases, spreadsheets, and computerized presentations.

Computer Applications

This course introduces the basics about computers. It includes the different modules of Microsoft Office; these include learning the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

This semester long course meets a need by helping students understand the legal, ethical, and societal issues associated with computer technology. Technology Literacy will ensure students become literate and functional in computer technology as well as learning the nature and social impact of technology and the corresponding formation and justification of policies for the ethical use of technology.

JavaScript 1/Visual Basic

This course provides the student with an introduction to the design, theory, and control structures used when developing JavaScript and MS Visual basic programs. Topics include basic concepts of problem solving analyzing problems, and designing an appropriate solution. It also examines the types of logic structures, data structures, Object-Oriented Programming, database management and file processing.

Introduction to Networking

This course presents the essential elements of computer networks, protocols of data communication and the role of network management software. Activities needed to maintain healthy network environments are investigated.


Linux Programming I

This course is designed to help students acquire a sound foundation for preparing to pass CompTIA’s Linux+ Certification exams LXO-101 and LXO-102. This CompTIA Certification is designed to meet industry demands by increasing its focus on the configuration of network services and security. The course will cover Ubuntu Linux and will equip all students with the information necessary to remain current with industry changes.

C++ Programming

Web Design I

Students will learn the basics of web page and site development including the use of HTML, DHTML and JavaScript languages. This class may be eligible for college credit upon completion of all requirements.

Web Design II

Students will learn additional languages utilized in the development of web page and sites including the use of XML, AJAX and XHTML.

Web Design III

Students will learn the basics of web page and sight animation and graphics, including the use of Macro Media flash, FX, and Adobe suite, Poser 5, Bryce 6 and Audacity.


Game Design & Development - Web Design IV

This course provides an overview of the process and steps required to design and develop a computer-based game. Students will learn and experience all phases utilized by the Game Development industry that include the design document, game design theory player perceptions, challenge levels, player interface, environmental design, puzzle and conflict design, proper game flow, and story-telling. Students will be using several game development software programs that include but are not limited to Lua, GameMaker 7, DarkBasic, openFrameworks, XNA 3.1, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.


Cybersecurity

This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of cybersecurity by discussing the evolution of information security into cybersecurity, and the relationship of cybersecurity to nations, businesses, society, and people, and cybersecurity theory. Students will be exposed to multiple cybersecurity technologies, processes and procedures, learn how to analyze the threats, vulnerabilities and risks present in these environments, and develop appropriate strategies to mitigate potential cybersecurity problems. This course provides a solid foundation in digital forensics and investigations. Students learn how to guard the private information of individuals, corporations, and government agencies by identifying computer network system weaknesses and defending against threats from hackers, viruses, and other malware. Additionally, this course encourages students to develop solutions that allow people to share computing resources while protecting privacy. It raises students’ knowledge of and commitment to ethical student behavior.

Specific topic coverage includes: introduction to cybersecurity, introduction VMWare, introduction to Windows Security, threats and vulnerabilities, how to mitigate, password security, Ubuntu, building practice images,Cisco Networking, Unix Operating System, Wireshark and Network Fundamentals.

Health Information Technology I

Prerequisite: IT or AOHS designation Fee: None

Students will acquire a strong understanding of technology and computer software associated with saving and protecting patient records, federal and state laws regarding patients’ records and personal information. Course content will include specific terminology, restrictions, network development, and computer security. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of HIT terminology, federal and state laws as each of these areas applies to the creation, sharing, and storage of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Students will demonstrate their knowledge and ability by designing and implementing security measures to protect EMR and explain the laws governing their actions.
