Why SUP there?
It poses a great challenge for the intermediate to advanced paddle boarder.
If you like to paddle against the current, you can face off against extremely strong currents. They get stronger as you move toward the middle of the river.
It’s free to park and to access the river.
It has a great landing spot, No-Li Brewhouse, that has a beautiful and picturesque view of the Spokane River. The only drawback is the $6.50 beers….
Overview: This was my second trip to the Spokane River this year. It posed a great challenge as my brother and I had to hug the western shore of the river as we headed upstream. If you get turned a bit too much, the current could cause you to lose your balance. I didn’t fall on this trip, but it was a great early in the season test.
Where we parked and launched: Follow My Get Out Spokane Map to the gravel parking lot north of No-Li Brewhouse. The easiest place to launch is just north of the gate to the outdoor seating at No-Li.
Just after launching, the view east.
The Millwood Bridge.
Beautiful homes and yards line the river.
Due to the strong current, there were no other paddle boarders on the river while we were on it. As we traveled upstream, we fought a strong current and had to hug the shore in order to navigate our way upstream. There were even times where we had to walk our boards through the foliage near shore so we could advance upstream. Once we made our turn, it made us realize that this part of the trip was our prize. It was a swift trip downstream with the reward of a cold beverage upon completion.
If you’re in search of a good workout and challenge, this SUP ride would be a great fit for you. The current is strong and makes for a long trip upstream and a quick one coming back. No-Li is a great place to end your ride, but the beer is a bit pricey. The outdoor seating area makes it worth it to have one though.
