Where? Please Flats Launch on the Spokane River. Here’s the link to my “Get Out Spokane” Google Map with this and all previous destinations charted. When: August 2018
Getting into the Water: Follow Google Maps to the Please Flats Launch. You will need your Discover Pass to park here. There is a large parking lot with plenty of parking. There are even picnic tables with a nice view of the river where you could enjoy a snack before or after your ride.
Describe the Ride: I have wanted to explore this section, downstream from the Bowling Pitcher, for some time now. I declare, it was worth the wait. We started by paddling upstream. There was a bit of a current in August, but it was not too difficult to make headway paddling upstream. Within 15 minutes or so, we had gone as far as possible when we met a set of rapids bringing a rush of water with it. It was fun the paddle to the rapids, then ride the waves back toward the launch. Since the ride was not terribly long, we decided to venture downstream past the launch. We traveled 30 minutes downstream past the Seven Mile bridge. We returned to Please Flats soon after our first visit and we paddled almost all the way to the Nine Mile bridge. Round trip, paddling at a solid clip took us a couple hours. It was peaceful and beautiful. The easy access to the water from the launch was a nice bonus.

There are very few man-made structures along this stretch of the river. It's natural and serene.
This stretch or the Spokane River is quiet, easy to access and quite beautiful. The water appears clean enough to cool off on a hot day. You can paddle a short while or make it a long adventure. You have options. Viewing an osprey or other wildlife is likely if you paddle here.
