TRUNKS OF TREATS

This past Sunday night, CVBC rolled out the red carpet to almost 500 households at our annual Trunk-or-Treat. It is difficult to get an exact count of every person that came through the gate - but at one point, the line stretched from the entrance to the eastern parking lot all the way around the front of the church about 150 feet onto the walking track! Those who manned trunks said that this was the largest turnout we have ever had.

As we were going through the registration forms, we found we had several families who traveled a long way to get to our campus. I called several of those individuals on Monday. One story stood out to me.

It was a single dad who brought his daughter all the way from Dalton. I asked him how in the world he ended up in Flintstone from Dalton. He told me that he only gets his daughter every other weekend and that he wasn’t going to be able to take her Trick-or-Treating on Thursday night. So this weekend, he found every church event between Dalton and Chattanooga. They spent two days going “Trunk-or-Treating.” He said that our church was the first time his daughter had ever gone on a hayride. I’ve prayed for that family many times and have asked the Lord to help that little girl remember that her first hayride was courtesy of people who love Jesus and that He will draw her heart to Himself!

Though we may not always see immediate fruit from community events like Trunk-or-Treat, we do know that putting together a quality event like Trunk-or-Treat helps us connect with our community. By opening the doors (or in this case the parking lot), we come face to face with our daily mission field. Thankfully, we have the opportunity to sow seeds of the Gospel!

A huge thank you to everyone who hosted a trunk, drove a tractor, parked cars, served hot chocolate, or registered our guests. It takes a ton of people to make Trunk-or-Treat a possibility. We are already talking about how to make next year even better!
