Author Charles G. West famously said, “We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking, only to learn that it is God shaking them.” During this unprecedented time, it has definitely felt like our foundations have been shaking. Especially for us Type-A people, having our control more-or-less taken away by the unknown has been truly difficult. But to know who is in control, who is shaking our very foundations, should give us peace. In Philippians 4:7, the Apostle Paul describes it as "a peace that surpasses all understanding." Church Family, I know this extended season that we are in has been stressful and unsettling. But in such an uncertain time as this, may we always turn to the Lord in prayer. I'm reminded of the Abraham Lincoln quote, "I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go." My hope and prayer for us as a Church Body is that when our foundations shake, our immediate response is to fall to our knees in humility and through prayer, we trust in God's absolute control and His sovereignty.

As a Student Ministry, we have also faced several difficulties during this pandemic: the inability to meet in person, therefore having to meet via Zoom; burnout from overuse of digital platforms; staying fully engaged in meaningful community, and the list goes on-and-on. But we are hopeful. Does that mean we will be without further difficulties and challenges as we move forward? Absolutely not! We anticipate more uncertainty and stumbling blocks in our future. But we are optimistic as we look forward to better days, because we know who it is who holds our days in His hands.

Continue to be praying for our students and their families as they navigate school starting back this month. We look forward to meeting back in person and having our yearly Back to School Bash at some point in the month of August.

Regarding the Recreation Ministry at CVBC and our Upward Soccer program, we are moving forward as normal. Registration is currently open; however, all registration is happening online only. We have already had several kids sign-up to play soccer with us this fall. Here is the link to register: https://registration.upward.org/UPW70480

Also, if you are interested in helping serve in this ministry, the Volunteer Application link is below. Areas of service include coaching, referring, concessions, grounds crew, team parent, as well as other opportunities. Please prayerfully consider supporting this community outreach ministry. Besides prayer, please help us get the word out. You can go to the church's Facebook page and share any of our Upward Soccer posts. The deadline to register for our Upward Soccer program is August 10. As always, we will also need volunteers for evaluations on August 8 (10 AM - 12 PM) and August 10 (6 - 8 PM). We look forward to serving our community and reaching it with the gospel through the avenue of soccer.
