In April, special guests arrived at our school: high school students from Spain and the Basque Country spent an unforgettable week with us as part of the Erasmus+ cultural exchange program. Our goal was to show them how colorful and rich the world of Hungarian traditions is – and in the process, we learned a lot from them!
We painted Easter eggs together, tried out traditional waxing techniques, and of course, we had to splash around – amidst great joy!
A real challenge awaited everyone during the folk dance lessons: some of them spun and spun as if they had always danced in Kalocsa skirts, while others tried to follow the steps with laughter. During our excursions, we visited the Busó Museum in Mohács, where we tried on busó masks and got to know the winter hunting traditions. On the city tour, we got to know the beauties of Pécs.
Of course, they were not left out of school life either: they participated in our classes and sports activities. Some of them fitted in right away, while others enthusiastically joined in the joint work after a somewhat timid start.
By the end of the week, we had not only learned new words, new dance steps and new customs from each other – but also made new friendships that will surely extend beyond national borders.
This exchange program reminded us that even though we speak different languages and have different customs, shared experiences and openness always bring us closer to each other.
Thank you Erasmus + for allowing us to be part of this special week! 🌍💬🎉
