NWEA MAP & iReady Assessments

All districts in Ohio are required to administer an ODE-approved Reading diagnostic test each year to students in grades K-3 and report their results to ODE The primary purpose of Ohio's diagnostic tests is to provide a tool to check the progress of students toward meeting the standards. Diagnostic tests may also serve as tools that assess student's strengths and weaknesses to help inform instructional decisions.

The ODE-approved reading diagnostic test used by CPS is either the NWEA Growth Reading assessments or the iReady Reading assessments. At grade 3, the NWEA MAP Growth 2-5 Reading test and iReady Reading test may be used as an alternative assessment for grade promotion tied to Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee.

CPS also uses the MAP and iReady diagnostic assessments as readiness assessments for the Ohio State Tests and End-of-Course Exams in grades 6-8 and for Algebra 1 and Biology students.
