ACT

The State of Ohio requires that schools administer the state-funded ACT (or SAT) to all grade 11 (year-three High School students) in the Spring of each school year. Senate Bill 3 exempts the following students from the requirement to take this assessment: students identified as taking the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities; students identified as having an intellectual disability; students who are limited English proficient and who have been enrolled in United States schools for less than two years and for whom no appropriate accommodations are available; and students who previously earned a "remediation-free" score on a previous attempt of the ACT (or SAT).

CPS uses the ACT for this state requirement. All CPS 11th grade students take the ACT in Spring.

Purpose of Assessment

The ACT Test is designed to assess a high school student's readiness for college. It provides universities and colleges with a standardized data point to compare college applicants.

The ACT Test measures a student's skills in five core areas:

The score range for each test is 1-36. A Composite score is also reported, which is the average of the four test scores rounded to the nearest number and it also has a range of 1-36.
