Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA-R)

Purpose of Assessment

At the beginning of each school year, children in public school kindergarten programs are required to be assessed using during the first 20 days of the school year. This assessment includes ways for teachers to measure a child's readiness for engaging with instruction aligned to the kindergarten standards.

Data Received From Assessment

The KRA-R measures the essential areas of development for students in the areas of Social Foundations, Mathematics, Language and Literacy, Physical Well-Being and Motor Development. The purpose of the KRA-R is to provide information about a student's preparedness for Kindergarten as well as identify what supports children may need to best engage in and benefit from the Kindergarten curriculum.

Scores from the Language and Literacy area from the KRA-R may be used to meet the requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee . If used to meet the Third-Grade Reading Guarantee requirement, the Language & Literacy portion must be recorded in the online system no later than November 1st.

Students who score below the required minimum score on the Language & Literacy area of the KRA-R are required by ODE to be on a Reading Improvement & Monitoring Plan (RIMP).

Training

Kindergarten teachers must complete training and online certification in order to administer the KRA.  Additional training opportunities may be found in STARS Training website through the OH-ID portal.

Teachers may also access professional development directly through the K-Ready Portal as well with a registered account.  Please fill out the Testing Platforms Account Request or Change Form if you need to request a K-Ready account.

Materials

KRA-R materials are to be re-used each year. As a secure material, these binders should be stored in a secure location. Damaged binders must be reported to the testing department. Additional material requests can be sent to cpstesting@cpsboe.k12.oh.us
