Phones at School

Phone and Tablet/Personal Technology Device Policy

A personal technology device (PTD) is a portable Internet-accessing device that is not the property of the district that can be used to transmit communications by voice, written characters, words or images, share information, record sounds, process words, and/ or capture images, such as a laptop computer, tablet, smartphone, cellphone, personal digital assistant or E-Reader. A student may possess and use a PTD on school property, at after-school activities and at school-related functions, provided that during school hours and on a school bus, the PTD remains off and put away. Phones are allowed at teacher discretion at dismissal only.

Failure to put away cell phones or personal devices is insubordination (Rule 7 of the CMS Code of Conduct) and may result in referral or further consequence. Failure to surrender device is automatic Lunch Detention and Failure to surrender device to admin is automatic ISS.

If device is collected it is retrieved by student or parent from office as instructed.

Students permitted to use PTDs during the school day must follow all rules set forth in Policy IJNDB and Regulation IJNDB-R, and the Student Internet Use Agreement. The district is not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to PTDs or other electronic devices brought onto CMS property.

AirDropping as CMS Student Code of Conduct Violations

Airdropping material is not allowed. It can be written up as a class disruption and violation of our school phone policy (see above)  AS WELL AS it can be a Rule 5, 8, 21 or  22 violation (see Code of Conduct Tech Rules)

If a student receives an airdrop request, they MUST DECLINE IT as they cannot be sure the content is not a violation.
