When?
Video link must be posted to the Library Google Classroom Assigment (see "how" below) by March 15th
If you are chosen as one of the top four Piedmont entries (individuals in grades 6-8)
permission slips due to Ms Gurthie by March 20th.
district-level contest entries due from Piedmont Admin by March 29, 2024.
CMS and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte will select and acknowledge the district-level winners at the end of April 2024.

These resources are by no means exhaustive. Students should use at least two or three additional resources to investigate the events and global facts associated with the global concern in the country/region they chose and to explore plausible solutions.
Videos
JUDGING CRITERIA
All entries must be presented and recorded by students.
Judging of entries will be based on the student's adherence to the prompt and on their ability to share their ideas effectively.
Students may use a slide deck as part of their presentation
Entries may not exceed 5 minutes.
All entries must be the original work of the student and have been researched and recorded by the student during the current school year.
The contest is sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC).

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students
Participation in this contest provides students the opportunity to develop digital competencies that help to empower their voice and prepare them for a complex technological landscape. The task in this contest is aligned with the following ISTE Standards for Students:
Standard 1 Empowered Learner: Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency in their learning goals.
Standard 3 Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.
Standard 6 Creative Communicator: Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.
Standard 7 Global Collaborator: Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally.
Global Competencies
In addition to meeting ISTE Standards, this contest provides students with the opportunity to understand the world through interdisciplinary study. Through the completion of the task students develop four key global competencies: investigating the world, recognizing perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action.

Task
Students explore one of the global concerns selected for this year’s contest, consider the impact of that global issue on a region or country other than the United States, and propose solutions to improve people’s lives around the world.
Teachers, please:
discuss the steps outlined in the Contest Task Guide and provide support and guidance through the process
help students gather relevant information to address the task, write a draft, and record their presentation
make sure student entries do not exceed 5 minutes and that each entry (form?) includes:
Student’s first name ONLY, school, grade level, and teacher’s name
The global concern and some of the global facts associated with the topic
Specific solutions to bring about positive change in the future
At least two sources used to research the global issue (other than the ones we provided)

At the end of the school-based contest, please follow the instructions in the box below the "tabs table" to submit the 4 winning entries for your school.
