Mardi Gras is a cultural tradition in several cities in Europe, the USA, and South America such as Nice, Rio de Janiero, and New Orleans. Ms Hanson and Ms Coriale teach about Mardi Gras as part of French class. Ms Gurthie is from New Orleans.

although called the French Quarter, the architecure is Spanish and there is influence from all over the world like these flags (kind of like our Piedmont library)

Growing Up with Mardi Gras

Ms Gurthie as a little kid at Mardi Gras. Riding a float as a viking, as the cat from Kiss, and making a mardi gras float for school out of a cardboard box and paper.

I never had to go to school on mardi gras day because it was a holiday. even if you wanted to go to school, you could not get to it with all the crowds in the streets.

I have great memories with my cousins after parades sorting the beads we got just like you might do with your Halloween candy after trick or treating!
