What is Crochet?
Crochet is a needlework technique performed using a crochet hook to interlock loops of yarn or other fibers. The yarn is interlocked using a pattern to achieve different patterns, shapes, or items.
Crochet is one of the most common fiber crafts and there are many patterns and materials made specifically for crochet in mind.
initial thoughts: At first it was difficult to follow and understand the pattern since I was not very familiar with the official name of stitches. Once I was able to find a visual version of the pattern I was following it made it much faster to complete my set of granny squares. I really enjoyed playing around with different colors and stitches to create a granny square that I both enjoyed visually and felt confident in using for my final piece. I found it very relaxing once able to get into a rhythm.
Review: Overall I had a lot of fun getting more familiar with this craft. I enjoyed the process from start to finish and it was really cool seeing my vision come to life. I did have to troubleshoot a few times when things didn't turn out exactly as I envisioned. Overall it was a lot of fun and there is a quick learning curve. There were many resources online that helped me when I got stuck on something. This would be a great entry-level fiber craft to start!
What would I do next?
I would love to start a larger project like a blanket or sweater, and really dive deeper into the art and get more familiar with different stitches and patterns. It would also be really cool to learn how to make my own pattern to share with others online. I also think it would be a fun challenge to test out other fiber crafts like knitting or tatting!
