This toy/models sole purpose is to be used to enhance your anime figurine collection. I was very interested in the creative freedom offered by the 3-D pen. The physical connection you make when you are the one drawing the image makes your figurine more memorable.
Review: The difficult part of using the 3-D pen is knowing how much plastic to apply in one place, as well as moving fast enough with your hand that you don't have bulges or unwanted shapes. The most difficult part of making the figure was her hands, which required the most detail. The pen only emits plastic at a certain rate and size which makes it hard to do small things. Overall I am very pleased with how the model turned out, given that it was my first time using the pen.
It is very fun getting to see your imagination take shape before your eyes. It's even better when you make something you're proud of. Don't think of the 3-D pen as a tool, think of it as an extension of your body.
Instructions
Grab the 3-D pen from the box and turn switch to ON. Let the pen heat up for a few minutes or until the pen lights up as ready. Select your desired color and insert the plastic stick into the hole at the top of the pen. Gently push the plastic into the pen until the motor grabs on to it. You will hear a whirring noise which means the pen is ready to go. Beginners should set the speed on the pen to slow as this will help you see what you are drawing.
To make a figure like mine you need to create a stable base. Begin by drawing a circle a little bigger than the size of a poker chip. Quickly form the base by dragging plastic from one end of the circle to another, almost as if you were shading in a drawing. Make your base 3-4 layers thick with plastic, or enough that you cant see through it. From there you need to form the feet of the figurine by creating tight, neatly stacked coils, that build upon themselves to form the rest of the legs. Keep coiling until you get to the waistline of the figure then stop. Begin to use the plastics natural stickiness to wrap the plastic around itself as if the Minecraft laws of physics applied. Once the waist/skirt has been formed begin to coil upward until you reach the neck. Build the arms the same way you did the legs instead you will be going horizontally instead of vertically. The hands are very small and tricky so just do your best and try to make them somewhat decent. The head is formed the same way as the legs until you want to make it wider, which in that case you use the technique from the waist. The hair of the figurine starts at her crown and is draped down on itself to create depth. Add your eyes, mouth and buttons and you're all set.
