Related Services
RELATED SERVICES
IEP teams may determine that related services are necessary for students to benefit from special education. These services typically include developmental, corrective, and other supportive services. Related services should support the special education program outlined in the IEP with a clear correlation between the related services and the IEP goals. Related services examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
Behavioral health services; Counseling services; Hearing/auditory services; Nursing services; Occupational therapy; Physical therapy; Psychological services; Recreation services; School health services; Work-based learning; Aides in general education setting; Sign-language interpreter; Speech therapy; Language therapy; Vision services; Orientation and mobility services.
Speech/Language Services
The CMCSS SLP Google Site can be found at: https://sites.google.com/cmcss.net/cmcss-slp/referral-process/speech-referrals. This site includes information you will need to support your work as an SLP in the Clarksville/Montgomery County Schools. If you are looking for specific forms or a particular part of the process, please click on the appropriate subheading located on the top of this page. This site was created by our SLP/SLT team and is a collection of resources related to Speech/Language Services.
Speech referrals should be made directly to the building SLP. Timelines for speech referrals are based on the discretion of the SLP.
Language referrals: When a teacher or parent has language concerns, an evaluation is not to be conducted immediately. A screen may be completed first to determine strengths, weaknesses and/or the necessity of a referral to S-TEAM. A student must go through the S-TEAM process prior to a referral for a language evaluation. If no progress is seen with these interventions, a referral for language may be warranted. See below for specific language S-TEAM interventions in the classroom.
Pre-school referrals are made through the special populations department at central office. The contact person is Jean Anderson, 931-648-5653 ext 1006. When parents call Jean, she will schedule a date and time to bring their child in for a screening. The child will be screened by an SLP and/or school Psychologist. Results of the screening will determine the need for further evaluation. If a developmental evaluation is warranted then information is sent to the psychologist and SLP at the child's school of zone where a comprehensive evaluation will be completed. If a speech/language evaluation is warranted then the referral will be sent to the district preschool speech/Language evaluator. An evaluation will be completed then information is sent to the SLP at the child's school of zone.
Vision Services
A full description of CMCSS visions services is located here: https://sites.google.com/cmcss.net/visionservices/home.
Hearing Services
Students who may need hearing services should be referred to your special populations coordinator. The coordinator will then confer with Jeanne Salyer, our teacher for deaf/hard-of-hearing, who will assist the team in determining the student's level of need. A hearing program is currently housed at Pisgah Elementary; however, sign language interpreters are available to students who need this service in their respective schools.
Nursing Services
Requests for nursing services should be referred to CMCSS RN/School Nurse Supervisor, Brittany Kirk, as well as the appropriate special education coordinator to assist the team in determining if the medical needs of the student can be supported by the school nurse, special education staff, or an individual health provider.
Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
Request for an Occupational Therapy Evaluation/Observation or Physical Therapy Evaluation/Observation should be emailed to the school assigned OT or PT. The request should also be uploaded in Edplan.
