TEIS Transitions
Tennessee Early Intervention Systems
Parents and guardians, if your child is with TEIS (TN Early Intervention Systems), please see below for more information. If your child is receiving services through TEIS, we will have a transition planning conference with the PreK Coordinator, your TEIS Service Coordinator, and your Early Interventionist to go over the process from TEIS and the school system.
Visit cmcss.net/Pre-K and start the enrollment process. Please choose “TEIS” referral. Once we have our TPC and receive information for the referral as well as information from your service coordinator, the PreK Coordinator will send this referral to the school for which you are zoned.
The TEIS extended option is for parents that have a student(s) turning 3 on or after Oct. 15th. Listed below is the expectations and process for this option:
You will proceed as normal with the TEIS referrals when I send them to you initially.
Once you have completed the evaluation and scheduled the eligibility meeting, you will then need to invite myself and one of the TEIS Service Coordinators to that meeting (their name will be on the referral packet). IF the student is found eligible the parents will have at that time, the following options:
Parents chooses to have their child attend CMCSS DPK program
The extended TEIS option
Decline all services, or
Request 10 days to make a decision.
At this meeting, I would HIGHLY recommend that the teacher has a date/time in mind to schedule an IEP meeting and schedule it at that time. This is only if the parents choose to attend CMCSS DPK. We will still be held to indicator 12 compliance and will need to be very strategic when we evaluate, schedule the eligibility meeting, and/or the IEP meeting. If we wait too close to the 3rd birthday and the parents request 10 days to make a decision, this could be after the child’s 3rd birthday and if we don’t have everything in place by then, we are out of compliance.
At the eligibility meeting, once the team has agreed on eligibility, you will then hand it off to the TEIS service coordinator and they can ask the parents about what they are choosing for their child. IF the parents decide to go with the extended option, you will then inactivate the student as of the date of the meeting because of:
Now, what happens if the parent decides that they don’t want the extended option anymore and/or they are coming to CMCSS because they have turned 4. We will need to be prepared to have the child come in for an observation with all related service specialist to determine if what was initially evaluated still stands true of the initial performance of the child (TEIS Overview).
I have also attached the TEIS pathways document that is handed out and communicated with parents.
