Dates to Remember:
Professional Learning Day: Kindly note that Sherwood School will be closed on Monday, September 23rd as it will be a Professional Learning Day for teachers.
Sherwood School's Truth and Reconciliation Week: Our class will be participating in Sherwood School's Truth and Reconciliation Week from Tuesday, September 24th until Friday, September 27th. We will be remembering the history of residential schools, through the experience of Phyllis (Jack) Webstad, and the intergenerational impacts of its legacy on First Nations and Indigenous peoples.
Second Step Program: Our next Second Step lesson with Mrs. Swan will be on Tuesday, September 24th, Day 2.
Book Exchange: Our next book exchange will be on Wednesday, September 25th, Day 3. Please have your child return their Library book(s) by or on Tuesday, September 24th, Day 2. Merci!
Orange Shirt Day: Sherwood School will be observing Orange Shirt Day on Thursday, September 26th. All students and staff are encouraged to wear an orange shirt on this date.
Learning Buddies: Our next Learning Buddies session with Mme Fraser's Grade 3 French Immersion class will be on Thursday, September 26th, Day 4.
Absence: Madame Lauren Harper will be replacing me for the day on Friday, September 27th as I will be absent. Unfortunately, I will not able to check for email messages or take telephone calls.
Terry Fox School Run: Our class will be participating in Sherwood School’s annual Terry Fox School Run to raise money for cancer research on Friday, September 27th at 12:15 p.m. Kindly ensure that your child is dressed comfortably for the run and weather on this date.

Students are also invited to donate spare change at the school on the day of the run. Please send coins in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name and purpose of the payment (Terry Fox School Run) on it.
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice for Show and Share on Friday, September 27th. Kindly help your child introduce themselves. The following sentence structure may be helpful to them: Bonjour! Je m’appelle _____. Please remember not to send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week and year ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Shivansh and our first assistant will be Anna this week.
Theme: Our theme will be Colours and Shapes this week. We will also talk about National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Terry Fox.
Cutlery: Kindly pack cutlery in your child’s lunch box, if they require a fork or spoon. Merci!
Independence: Kindly help your child be as independent as possible when getting ready to go outdoors for recesses/afternoon dismissal. Please ensure they can tie their own shoelaces, if they wears shoes with laces, and can fasten their own sweaters/jackets.
Morning Arrival Time: Kindly note that the morning arrival time for walkers and students being dropped off is 8:15 a.m. or later. Limited supervision is only available for bus students who arrive earlier due to bus route schedules.
Weekend Food Bags: A community based volunteer organization provides Sherwood School with bags of non-perishable food for students over the weekends. Kindly email Kayla Swan at kmswan@edu.pe.ca, one of the school's counsellors, if your family would benefit from this program.
