Dates to Remember:
Focus on Kindness as a Core Value: Sherwood School will continue to focus on kindness for the month of January. Mrs. King, the school's PBIS (Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports) teacher will assist students and staff as they learn how kindness supports social and emotional learning. This will be a continuation from the month of December.
Book Exchange: Our next regularly scheduled book exchange will be on Monday, January 13th, Day 3.
Learning Buddies: Our next Learning Buddies session with Mme Fraser's Grade 3 French Immersion class will be on Tuesday, January 14th, Day 4.
Home and School Meeting: Sherwood School’s next Home and School Association meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the school’s Library. All parents/guardians are invited to attend.
Skating: Our class will be going skating on Monday, January 20th from 11:40 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. at the Cody Banks Arena, as part of our Physical Education curriculum. Kindly write me a note in your child's communication duo tang by Thursday, January 16th, if your child will need to borrow skates and/or a helmet from the school.
Parents are invited to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our grade level. Please note that helmets must be worn on the ice by everyone.
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice for Show and Share on Friday, January 17th. Kindly help your child introduce themselves and present their toy. The following sentence structures may be helpful to them: Bonjour! Je m’appelle _____. Voici mon/ma _____. Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.
Photograph of Winter Activity: Weather permitting, kindly email me a photograph of your child participating in an outdoor winter activity by Monday, January 20th. Your child will use the photograph in an integrated Winter Activities themed Show and Share on Friday, January 24th. Merci beaucoup!
Notes:
Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Gia and our first assistant will be Ivy this week.
Theme: This week, our theme will be Winter Clothing. We will also touch on Winter Activities again.
Winter Clothing: Kindly ensure that your child is dressed warmly for outdoor recess every day, including snow pants, winter boots, a winter coat, a neck warmer/scarf, a hat and mittens/gloves. Recess will be much more enjoyable for them if they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Please remember to label all of your child's winter clothing as well. Merci!
Independence: Kindly have your child practice getting dressed in their winter clothing at home so that they can get dressed for outdoor recesses and afternoon dismissal as easily and independently as possible at school. Merci beaucoup!
Throughout our Winter Clothing theme, we will be talking about the following order to get dressed in winter clothing:
snow pants
boots
coat
neck warmer/scarf
hat
mittens/gloves
Extra Hat and Mittens/Gloves: Kindly double-check that your child has an extra hat and an extra pair of mittens/gloves in their backpack each day. Please remember to label them too! Merci!
Early Closure Dismissal Routine: With the arrival of winter weather, kindly review your child's early closure dismissal routine with them. Please write me a note in your child's communication duo-tang to request a new Early Closure Form, if their routine has changed since September. In the event of an early closure, either myself or my substitute teacher will follow the routine indicated on your child's Early Closure Form and are not able to check for email messages or take telephone calls.
Have an amazing week!
