Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. 400 million cups of coffee are consumed by people each day in America alone. There are so many different types of beans and different factors that go into making a cup of coffee.
Coffee has over 1800 chemical components, and everyone has their own idea of a perfect cup of coffee. But there are ways to make a cup of coffee that everyone pretty much likes.
Extraction of Coffee
Extraction means how much percent of the dry coffee has been dissolved in the water while brewing coffee
Extraction yield formula:
Brewed coffee(grams) multiplied by the percent of total dissolved solid(TDS) divided by how much coffee has been used
The TDS basically means how strong the coffee is, so if you like your coffee strong, you want a higher percentage of TDS
The ideal extraction yield is 18-22%
Under extraction(or less than 18%) tastes more acidic
Over extraction(over 22%) tastes more bitter
Sometimes, the 18-22% does not mean it is a good cup of coffee. There are many factors that com into play while brewing the coffee which can off balance everything.
