Whenever we walk outside, whether we realize it or not, the weather affects us. The clothes that we wear are based off of what the climate around is is like. When it is hot, we wear shorts and a tank top; when it is cold, we wear pants and a jacket; when it is raining, we wear rain boots and bring an umbrella. If we did not have some way to see what the weather around us was going to be like for the day, we would end up stranded without a coat or an umbrella. Weather predictions are critical for the way we live, and they require a significant amount of math when making those predictions.
Because the Earth's atmosphere is a fluid, its motion is controlled by central equations of dynamic movements. Then a program called Met Office has 3D models that show the movement of those fluid dynamics. With the use of this model, mathematicians are able to observe the current state of the atmosphere, humidity, and temperature, and can make predictions about what the weather will be. They have a standard distance that is used for the scale and worry about the weather in those little sections. Although this is used mainly in Europe right now, it is found to be very reliable.
