In the game of American football mathematics is present everywhere. The most blatant example of this is through angles; a wide receivers routes, and a defensive players pursuit angles are what typically comes to mind. However you can also see math in passing.
The player that usually passes the ball is the quarterback. The quarterback is statistically tracked and evaluated by completion percentage and completion yards. On the other end the receiver is also statistically evaluated by the amount of receiving yards, catches, and even the area he caught the ball at. The quarterback has to predetermine when and where a receiver who is running is going to arrive at a particular spot and throw the ball in such a way that it arrives at that predetermined destination. Whether or not the quarterback realizes he is using math, the speed in which the ball is released, the angle in which he releases the ball, and the distance he throws it all pertain to math.
