Math is all around us. From architecture to a zoo, there is evidence of mathematics everywhere. There is math even in medicine! With medicine the stakes are high. Often, one little miscalculation can cost someone their life. That is why in the medical field, there is such an emphasis on math in the curriculum. But, unlike in a classroom, doctors use math to solve real life problems.
Every day, doctors use mathematical equations to calculate health problems in a patient's body. Both nurses and doctors use math to determine how much medication to give their patients based on many factors such as weight, age, etc. Doctors also use statistics and other formulas to interpret test results. Many nurses use formulas to determine how much to give by IV drip and for how long. As well as occasionally mix medications and must determine how much of each. Overall, math is used everyday by nurses and doctors around the world.
Math is also used to determine which medications to fund and advertise. Organizations and doctors use mathematical techniques to find out what medications would do the most good for society or for an individual. Multiple factors go into finding and producing the best medications and millions go into this research every year.
Companies use math to determine the best medication for a specific problem that has certain characteristics. Companies used to do this with trial and error, but they now use mathematical equations. Scientists work together with mathematicians to find the best possible solution.
Many scientists have predicted they will be able to predict the risk of diseases with math. In fact, this has already been done with breast cancer in women using algorithms. Scientists use mathematical equations and models to evaluate and study the diseases and the human body. This research will help doctors to take more preventive measures and stop diseases from getting to thousands of people. In the future, we will have the ability to do so much more with the abilities God has given the world. Medicine is just one of the things math will be able to help with.
