Short explanation about your CP and your banner
I frequently see a lot of below-average schools and orphanages with poor environments not having tools to teach the students. This leads to poor quality education and relates to SDG goal number 4. Quality education is defined as a program that prioritizes each student's social, emotional, mental, physical, and cognitive growth, independent of gender, color, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, or geography. Not just for tests, but for life as well, it prepares the child. According to the UN, one of the targets of quality education is to ensure universal literacy and numeracy.
Quality Education In Books
MY SMART GOAL
Specific : I want to reach out to children in those orphanages so i can give them a source of education. I want to be able to donate used books to the orphanages. I want to create a poster about quality education and post it in social media. I would like to do this because, ever since i started primary school, i always had the best facilities, resources, teachers and friends. However, for the children that are in those orphanages, they always had a hard time to learn because of the lack of resources in the orphanage.
Measurable : I will know that i have succeeded when i have reached my goal of how many books i plan to donate. I would like to donate approximately 55-60 books. Some signs of success are completing the poster and infographics for promoting the issue and posting in social media and collecting the books and donating to the schools or orphanages.
Attainable : Firstly, having the resources to create the poster/infographic campaign and knowing where to promote the campaign to. Then i will need to set up a way people can donate used books in my own school. The final step is to find a school and/or orphanage to donate the collected books and to do it.
Relevant : This goal is important to me because i feel that everyone deserves good education especially low-income/middle class families. I see a lot of poor children going to their schools with no shoes, dirty books, and the same clothes.
Time based : My estimate is that i will most likely reach my goal during the months of December and January. I will first complete the poster campaigns and then promote them.My deadlines for the products are varying. For the poster campaigns, around October to November. Then promote them after their finished in social media.
How do you gain empathy for your users?
In the poster, i wrote that if you donate the used books, all the books that are collected will be donated to the orphanage. This makes them feel like they are contributing to a greater cause.
What was your process when identifying your users?
I identified that Cikal had a pretty large community and that the seniors probably have a bunch of used books from their elementary years. So i figured to put the donation box in the 7th floor library to attract more people.
How challenging has it been to get in touch with your users? Or to decide which users to contact?
It has been less challenging because my friends donated a lot of their used books and helped me promote this project around the school. I also sticked posters in crowded places around the school.
What is one unique insight that you learned from speaking to your users?
I learned from on of my friends is to use a QR code in my poster so i can pack less information to make the poster look less crowded.
Did your interviews change your perspective on the challenge?
I did interview with my mentor on what to add in this culminating project. She said that the donation box should be in the 7th floor library and before i placed the box, i had to make a proposal for the teachers and principal. After i made the proposal, the library teacher promoted my project to the whole school.
In this project i am struggling in organizing the time when i have to donate the collected used books to the orphanage. Then i also have to ask permission to the manager so i can conduct my project.
Tell your testing phase and include your survey result
In my testing phase i asked my friends and mentor on the idea of the book donation. In the survey i put questions such as what do you already know about quality education?, and do you think donating books will help improve quality education?
What improvement did you make based on your testing survey?
I improved the way i made my poster, getting feedbacks to make it more bright and to put a picture of the orphanage. After that, i also put a pretty large box in the 7th floor library just in case there will be more books than expected. The final major improvement i did based on the survey is to just to donate to an orphanage and not a school as well. This way i can focus on one target and the books don't have to be divided.
What are the challenges in creating your prototype?
The challenge was to make a book proposal to put the box in the library, then it had to be approved by the principal, vice principal, and the head library teacher. However, after that, i didn't really face any challenges with my prototype.
This is the canva that i made for the 'OPEN BOOK DONATION' and i printed it. Then i posted it on the school.
This is the poster that i posted in the 7th floor library above the donation box. Other posters i posted were on the 6th floor library, the elevator, the 1sth floor lobby and all around the 7th floor.
These pictures are the collected books that i got from the Cikal community and from myself.
These are the photos for my action. My collected books and the children that i met in the orphanage.
