Hello! Welcome to the Art & Design Cambridge Technical Lewes Creative GTKY site. On this homepage are a number of things for you to look at, digest and understand as well as print out, engage and respond to so that you are ready to start in September 2023 with optimism, enthusiasm and creativity!
The booklet (left) is a summary brochure from OCR (our exam board) that gives you a brief but comprehensive overview to the qualification and what it involves.
It is definitely worth a read and will be referred to during the first year.
These are the supporting worksheets (blank) that you will be filling in on the day. Please come armed with a sketchbook and a glue stick (Pritt-stick would be the best)
In regards the sketchbook try and get a good quality one. Seawhite of Brighton (available in Clarks Stationers in Brighton / Sussex Stationers in most major Sussex towns including - Brighton, Lewes, Seaford, Uckfield, etc..) or online (such Amazon) are best.
Please avoid cheap(er) alternatives. Everyone loves Tiger but, even though they are cheap they don't always have the best quality sketchbooks. Finally get a sketchbook with a spiral bind, (instead of a hardback spine) as this will allow you to remove pages without too much stress. However, you will soon learn you never remove any of your pages if you want a good grade!
You'll also see below an equipment list which has a list of materials. The more you are ready to learn the better!
An essential part of the course you need to all show that you have a comprehensive understanding and knowledge about visual language (2D and 3D), the use of materials / techniques / processes and visual communication/meaning.
As part of the GTKY day, if we are able to meet as a class, we will go right back to the basics by discussing and analyzing formal elements. We will go through this PowerPoint, together as a group, on the day to hopefully get you re-familiarized with what they are, the key ones and how and why artists/designers use them. If not, please spend time reading this through and digest the information.
The aim is that by sharing this you will be allowed you to undertake the your summer task (see below) by describing, explaining and justifying the work of others with increased confidence and high levels of understanding.
This brief presentation explains how best to undertake the summer task. It articulates the requirements as well as allowing you an opportunity to see how others students have tackled and presented this work in their sketchbook in the past.
Here is a really useful list of materials and equipment. You will see that it is listed in the following categories:
essential - you NEED these for September
desirable - you WANT these in the first term
accessible - you SHOULD have these
beneficial - you COULD have these
