Second-year students, Vinnie Hemal Cheda and Ananya Athaiya, hosted a fun quiz which received an enthusiastic response from the students since it took them down the memory lane of their journey in the Liberal Arts Programme.
This quiz was followed by an address by the Dean, Dr Jyothi Kumar who spoke about the inception of the Liberal Arts Programme which was inspired by the vision of interdisciplinarity and the desire to always move towards something new. This spirit of discovery is exemplified in every aspect of the Liberal Arts Programme. The program coordinator, Dr Prerana Srimaal addressed the gathering and reiterated the vision of Liberal Arts, emphasizing the importance of moving towards a sustainable world together. She spoke of the early days when the Liberal Arts Department was just a fledgling idea and how this idea took root through the persistent efforts and creative ideation of the faculty members, culminating in the launch of the Liberal Arts Department.
Dr Prerana Srimaal’s address was followed by the presentation of a short video that introduced the audience to Liberati, the Liberal Arts Association and the various Committees and Clubs which form a part of the Association.
The event also saw the launch of the Capstone Project in association with LabourNet, an organization that ‘exists at the intersection of social impact and business performance.’ Dr Gayathri Vasudevan, Chief Executive Officer of LabourNet Services addressed the audience. She highlighted the differences in exposure amongst privileged and underprivileged students and also rightly emphasized on the need to move from a technology-led world to one that is more empathetic.
Following her insightful address, second-year students of Liberal Arts, Tarushi Singh and Ananya Prabhakar, explored the question of what it means to be a Liberal Arts student. They shared the memorable experiences of their Liberal Arts journey which ranged from Navrasa, a student-led theater production to a visit to the Chitradurga fort which helped them dabble in the aspects of sustainable tourism and policy making.
