April 2021 has been a month of mixed emotions as the severity of the covid-19 pandemic aggravated and we had to suffer the loss of a few employees in our Christ fraternity. We mourned, yet continued to function with undeterred spirit.
Here are the list of events which took place during this month showcasing our solidarity in desperate times!

A virtual guest lecture was organized for 2ECOHA &B was held on 3rd April 2021, focusing on debating topics on Gender Economics paper. Dr. Renbeni Kikon was the coordinator of the webinar.The Guest Speaker was Miss S. Niyati, a Senior Research Fellow at the Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Bangalore Centre. Various concerns about rural women's work in India such as the low level of work participation rates for rural women, female work force participation rate were discussed.
A session by Dr. Pradeep K Mishra on Sharing knowledge about early life stress and its impact on mental health was held on 6th April 2021. The session was organised by the Department of Psychology of Bannerghatta campus and Kengeri campus.
Bridging Boundaries is our endeavour to inspire students from across the globe to engage in academic and cultural events. The first day of our event was a webinar on the topic ‘The Arts- A Frivolous Cherry on Top? held on 7 April 2021, which discussed on lessons learned from COVID-19 on what it means to work in creative fields. The speakers were Dr. Dimple Kaur, Dr. Sahanshill Dangol and Dr. Pradeep Thomas. The second day of the event was a webinar on the toropic ‘Crisis/ Risk Management During the Time of Pandemic’ held on 8 April 2021. The speakers were Dr. Rene Wiedner, Dr. Amit Wijjemane and Dr. Shabarisha N. The third day of our event was a discourse on how we can use art to transcend international boundaries. The speakers for the final day were Mr. Bidyut Bhusan Jena , Ms. Amrapali Shindhe and Ms. Pranjali Manirekar.
The Political Science Association of the CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Bannerghatta Road Campus, Bangalore held a Guest Lecture on the 8th April, 2021 for the final students of MEP and EPH.The Speaker was Shri. Tridivesh Singh Maini from Jindal School of International Affairs, OP Jindal Global University. Mr. Tridivesh Singh being an expert in this particular field gave his insights in a fruitful discussion with the students and the discussion ranged from the historic differences the nations of China and Russia (then Soviet Union) had, dating back from 1858 and evolved ever since and their tensions in the current global order.
The first year students of BA. Economics, Political Science and Media Studies, and BA. Journalism Honours, under the Department of Media Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), organised the official inaugural launch of their respective blogs ‘Avasa’ and ‘Vaarta’ on the 20th of April 2021. The Department invited Ms. Navya Singh, Trending News Editor at The Logical Indian to grace the event with her presence as the Chief Guest.
Ms. Singh officially launched the two blog pages by sharing her screen and visiting each page through the Media Studies Association (MESTA) website , giving impetus to smiles laced with pride across the faces of everyone who was a part of the whole process.
Vachana is the annual postgraduate seminar organised by the students of English Studies and Cultural Studies at CHRIST (Deemed to be University),Bangalore. Dr. Anita Ghai, Professor at School of Human Studies, Ambedkar University, Delhi gave the keynote speech on“Community Based Rehabilitation and a Critical Disability Studies Approach”. Dr. Dickens Leonard (CSSS, Calcutta), Dr. Sandhya Devesan (JMC, DU), Dr. Avishek Parui (IIT Madras), Mr. Shubhajit Sikhder (JNU) were the guests for the panel discussion.
On the 16th of April 2021,the event served as the opening ceremony for the 4th edition of Aroha, the fest of the psychology department. The theme Tula: Balance in Chaos, is meant to represent the balance that we have found in the chaos of navigating through this past year. The Chief Guest Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, psychologist at Moolchand Hospital, Delhi, enlightened the students on some contemporary issues in the field of mental health.
Abhyudaya – The International Business Club of MBA FIN-IB, organized a Corporate Interface on Corporate strategy and the guest speaker was Mr.Sudhanshu Pokhriyal - Chief operating officer, Brilloca Limited. The discussion was on why strategies fail and is it because of Business leaders failing to create COHERENCE in strategy or the Execution Fails?
Bulls & Bears conducted a three day mock stock from 16th to 18th April 2021 which was the first ever faceoff between the Business and Economics departments .The participants had to register under their respective departments. The winning department was decided based on the collective performance of all the participants from the department. The cumulative scores of the Economics and Political Science department was higher and thereby they were declared the winners.
Gaveshna was a research-oriented workshop-cum-seminar held from 19th to 20th April 2021,, jointly organized by Tafteesh, the research club, and Paracosm, the bi-annual journal of Ellipsis, the English and Cultural Studies Association. The research-oriented workshop-cum-seminar was aimed at UG students to develop their research sensibilities and skills. The event consisted of a workshop in which the guest speaker, Dr. S.V. Srinivas, familiarized UG students with some aspects of research and research writing.
On the 10th April 2021, a guest lecture was held for the Business management students. The guest speaker Mr. Sagar Choudary, Overseas HR Coordinator of TATA ELXSI discussed on various topics related to the life of expats and he explained the concept of Competency Management with suitable examples. The Participants were provided with various ideas of labour laws for the expat employees and the role of Human resource in this process.
The webinar on "Empirical Case Based Research" by Dr.Joshin John (Asst-Dean Research, XIME Kochi) was held on 8th April. What is a Case-based research?, the process of conducting a detailed case-based research, the methods and tools for analysis that can be employed and many such interesting aspects were discussed in the session.
According to a UN report in May 2020, more than 85,000 cultural institutions were forced to shut down due to the global COVID – 19 pandemic. To further enlighten, a webinar entitled “Museums in the time of COVID -19” was hosted by Christ University Bannerghatta, Campus, on April 29, 2021. The guest speaker for the webinar was Amareswar Galla. The webinar majorly focused on topics like the significant unknown museums in India, sustainable development, the role of tourism in poverty, and the severe post-pandemic hit on museums.
