Christmas Winter!
2021 comes to an end with Christmas and Rector's Day celebrations and awaits a prosperous 2022. There have been losses and there have been gains, but the ever permanent thing that stays eternal is 'Change'.
Lets peruse through to see what happened in December.

On 18 December 2021, CHRIST BGR campus celebrated Rector's day and Christmas jointly, with a variety of programmes which was held in the main auditorium during dusk hours. The chief guest of the day was the Rector and Chancellor Rev Dr Fr Paul Achandy who was accompanied by Vice-Chancellor Rev Dr Fr Abraham VM, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Fr Jose CC, Provincial of CMI Calicut province Fr Thomas TV, Former Registrar Prof. Subramaniam, Controller of Examinations Dr Johny Joseph and Alumni Association president Mr Jugnu Oberoi.
The event started with a formal gathering where the Rector/Chancellor of CHRIST University was felicitated. The felicitation speech was given by the Vice-Chancellor of the University Rev Dr Fr Abraham VM. The Head of the Department of Business and Management Studies Dr Joby Thomas introduced the Rector to the audience and amongst showers of praises, the Rector and Chancellor Rev Dr Fr Paul Achandy came forward to deliver his acceptance speech and Christmas message.
Fr Abraham had celebrated his birthday on 17 December and on behalf of BGR campus a birthday gift was offered to the Vice-Chancellor by Mr Jimmy Joseph, Administrative staff. The dignitaries were requested to cut the cake and Dean of BGR Dr Jyothi Kumar raised a toast to wish good health and happiness to everyone gathered for the celebration.
This was followed by a series of cultural events presented by the teaching and non-teaching faculty. The participants entertained the audience with a number of dances, dramas, choirs and a Christmas speech by housekeeping staff. An auction to raise funds for the Child Sponsorship Program, a project of CSA, was held and CHRIST BGR was able to raise a good sum from the bidders. The event concluded with gift exchanges for Christmas and a sumptuous dinner.
From 6 to 17 December 2021, English communication classes were held for the Housekeeping, Security and Maintenance staff of BGR campus. The CAPS, BGR coordinated with Ms Nithya Malini J, the trainer, to tutor on basic communication skills in English for the trainees. The program consisted extended for two weeks and successfully covered 30 hours in separate batches for the housekeeping and Security & Maintenance staff.
The group was divided into 3 batches. The Participants of the 1st and 2nd batch had a basic knowledge of the language and required a different level of teaching. The 3rd batch had received no formal education and needed to be taught from the basic level. One of the participants, Mrs Rukmani, was given the opportunity to make a short speech in English in the Rector’s Day program. Under the guidance and training of Ms Nithya Malini, she made a fantastic debut with her English speech and was appreciated by one and all. A special mention was made about this speech by the Dean, Dr Jyothi Kumar, in her Vote of Thanks.
PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter hosted a Round Table Youth Conclave on the scope of a potential post-pandemic career in the tourism industry. The conference took place virtually on 3 December 2021. Participants from other student chapters, such as the PATA Philippines LPU-Manila Student Chapter and the PATA UAE Higher Colleges of Technology Student Chapter, attended the conference.
The Panellists were Ms Mary Grace Kindica (PATA LPU Manila), Ms Maryam Alyammahi (PATA UAE Student Chapter), Ms Amy Jugran (PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter) and Ms Janvi Kunku (PATA India CHRIST University Student Chapter). The moderator was Ms Prerna Hatyal (Talent Engagement Lead at Talent Basket)
The panellists elaborated on a variety of topics, including aviation (covered by Ms Janvi Kunku), technology (covered by Ms Amy Jugran), and accommodations (covered by Ms Mary Grace Kindica).
This event which was held from 29 November to 1 December 2021, was the first On-the-Campus Event of CAPS for the Academic year, and there was great enthusiasm by the organisers as well as the Participants, the overwhelming response leading to an extension of the Event by another day, to focus on the Staff Awareness of CAPS. The objective of the event ‘to increase the visibility of CAPS in the Campus’ was met with the unexpected large turnover of students; the floorwise campaigning with the Faculty undertaken by the Student Heads served the purpose too.
Each wing/committee set up its own stall with various activities ranging from Poetry Writing to Fun Games. A brief info on CAPS was shared. The feedback was solicited by each wing/committee. The program had a special edition for the staff on the final day. Dr Fr. Biju KC, The Director, BGR Campus gave away prizes to the Students’ treasure hunt winners on the second day, and on the final day Dr Jyothi Kumar, Dean BGR Campus, gave away prizes to the winners of the Staff treasure hunt
