Have you heard the phrase Benedict Arnold? Well here is how that started. He was the hero of the war, he was the traitor of the war. Benedict Arnold's story is a good one.
Arnold was born January 14, 1741 into a well respected family. He was a member of the militia during the French and Indian war. Arnold joined the Continental Army when the Revolutionary War started.
Benedict Arnold proved himself a brave and skillful leader. Participating on the unsuccessful attack on Quebec promoted him to brigadier general. In 1780 Arnold is given command of West Point and September 21 of that year he met with John Andre and made his traitor's pact.
General Benedict Arnold speaks with British major John Andre to surrender West Point. The plot was foiled and Arnold was a traitor. After the plot was foiled he joined the British.
He really was the hero of the war and the traitor of the war so that is why people might call you a Benedict Arnold.
