Did you ever know what the Pennsylvania Line Mutiny was? It was a terrible thing but it made the soldiers more loyal to the commanding officers.
The hunt for the soldiers began one day when commanding officer General Anthony Wayne woke up on August 1, 1781 and he found out that more than half of his army was gone on a journey to march on congress and he chased them down. Before this the soldiers started to make nasty rumors about the officers which were all not true and just annoying the officers.
This all started with the soldiers wanting to be paid more and the officers wouldn’t give them the extra money the soldiers wanted and most just wanted to go home because the had already served their time in the war but the officers wouldn’t let them leave and the soldiers were outraged at the idea of not being able to leave and started nasty rumors about the officers. The soldiers wanted to march on congress to tell the congress about the situation and see if the congress would help out and give them what they desired.
While the soldiers were making their way to the congress British General Henry Clinton sent some of his emissaries to meet with the mutineers, but it wasn’t for a battle but for a offer the British said that they would give the mutineers the money they wanted in exchange for joining the British, but the mutineers refused and kept on traveling to the congress, but soon after General Anthony Wayne finally caught the mutineers and the 3 leading officers of the mutineers were executed by their 12 closest friends, the 3 were blindfolded and the first 6 shot above their heads as a warning then the second group of 6 shot them. After that the soldiers obeyed all their commands and behaved.
This is what the Pennsylvania Line Mutiny was and why it was so terrifying.
