What would happen if we did not have the French Alliance? Would we even be a
country? Let’s find out how the French Alliance helped in the Revolutionary War. We
will provide information about before the alliance, how we got them to sign the Treaty of
Alliance, and what happened after they signed the Treaty.
On October 26, 1776 Benjamin Franklin was sent to France collect international
service from France. While he was there he was supposed to get King Louis XVI to sign
and negotiate the Treaty of Alliance and Treaty of Amity and Commerce. While Franklin
was in France he would flirt with young women and was more known by French
females.
When Franklin got word that they won the Battle of Saratoga he was ecstatic. He
had finally got the French to sign the Treaty on February 6, 1778. Spain had also signed
a treaty on June 21, 1779 to help with the war.
Between 1778 and 1782 the French provided supplies, ammunition, and most
importantly troops. The Frenches security is what took out a British fleet and protect
Washington's army in Virginia. The French was vile in Protecting them in the Battle of
Yorktown when the British surrendered.
The French Alliance is what helped us as a independent nation to victory. Thanks
to the French we are now America.
