The Battle of Trenton

by C.I.

Have you ever seen the picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware River? Well that is a picture of the battle of Trenton. The battle of Trenton was a very decisive battle that turned the tide in the war.

Prior to the battle the Continental army was worn out from the previous battle that they lost at New York.George Washington has problems with troops enlistments ending at the end of the year. Washington planed a battle at Trenton before the troops left the battlefield.

The Americans had planned to split up in two groups. The Continental army will attack from the north and the south sides of Trenton. General Rall of the Hessian forces dismissed the idea of putting up walls around Trenton, and he payed later.

The Continental army crossed the Delaware River, and then they split as planned. The northern outpost was attacked by part of the army. The southern part was attacked by the Continentals, too. Soon the Continentals were firing the artillery the Hessian's retrited. Soon the Americans took full control of the battle and the Hessian's ended up surrendering.

The Americans took a tactical approach and ended up outsmarting the Hessian's in the end.
