Have you ever wondered what happened in the First Continental Congress? The First Continental Congress had all the delegates grouped up to make a new government.
Delegates from 12 of 13 British colonies met at Carpender’s Hall. They were elected by people from various colonies, colonial legislature, or by Committee of Corresponding of a colony. Loyalist sentiments outweighed Patriot views in Georgia, so that is why that colony couldn’t join the cause until next year.
The delegates agreed to impose economic boycott on the British trade. They rejected the Union of Great Britain and the colonies. The delegates urged the colonies to set up a train militia.
Peyton Randolph was the first president of the First Continental Congress until October 22nd. Illness forced him to retire. Henry Middleton was elected in his place to be president.
So in summary, all the delegates (besides the ones in Georgia) joined up to make a new government. This new government included all the delegates from different colonies. The voice of the people elected the First Continental Congress.
