November FLEW by!
Throughout the month of November, we were working on the many different facets of our Pumpkin/Gourd Study
Every day, we practiced dates, time, counting, letter sounds, and reading in our Morning Meeting.
And every day, we wrote in our journals and/or we completed math challenges.
Math Activities
Measurement, patterning, 3-D shapes, and number families were some of our Math focuses during November. The children also used cubes and 10-sticks to represent numbers as tens and ones. Everyone is supported and challenged with activities at their own level.
Sorting and Arranging Recycled Materials
We collected and organized all the different bottle caps and covers for the school-wide art project.
This is our own piece of the final work. It represents a mix of many ideas. Look for the blue and green Earth, the yellow and gold Sun and the clear, glowing Moon. Also try to find a tree with a colorful flower, a girl (possibly Jojo Siwa!) and a small butterfly.
Conversations about Thankfulness
Thanksgiving Cards
The children used a stencil to create the "Happy Thanksgiving" plaque on the card.
The children used water paints to create a colorful abstract painting.
I typed the children's thankful statements that had been written in their journals, and the children chose the color and the font. These were printed out and glued into the cards.
The children wrote their own complimentary close (Love, ...)
We made Thanksgiving cards filled with personal, individual, and thoughtful messages of appreciation.
Purposeful Play - Pride in what they do and in what they create!
Emergent Curriculum
After a day of surprise dance with chairs for an audience, our excitement grew and the children decided to write a Chanukah play. Pictures from the play will be posted in my December blog!
