April may have been a short month because of the break, but we were a very busy bunch!
Here are some of our April highlights!

We had some exciting spring things happen in the room.
Our pumpkin seed that Aurora found germinating in our pumpkin and we planted in October began to sprout! Our cactus began to flower with beautiful little pink flowers. And our two maple saplings that had looked like they might be dead began to grow lovely little leaves.
From addition to subtraction,
counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s,
counting, sorting and identifying coins,
and making and reading charts and graphs,
April was a month FULL of number play.
We have had a fascination with maps this whole year. Our meeting rug has a compass rose, allowing us to learn and practice how to use directions to tell where something is located on a map. Passing the giant world map in the hall helped us to see where different countries, oceans, and the equator were located on planet Earth.
We found dandelions blooming outside and observed the yellow flowers .
We saw how, over a few days, the yellow flowers disappeared, and in their place we saw white, feathery seeds.
So, we learned about and identified the dandelion life cycle.
To accompany our study, we read the story of "The Dandelion Seed" by Joseph Anthony.
Visiting Readers!
Tessa went to the 3s classes to read a Gerald and Piggie book by Mo Willems. All the children had a great time!
These books are super-fun to read, and other children in our class are already practicing to do their own Mo Willems storytime with younger students around the school.
Stay tuned for more exciting reading moments!
Spring Sprigs - We used tissue paper to make multi-color buds and blossoms. We observed trees beginning to bloom outside, and then talked about how different trees and plants bloomed in different ways. Children used their artistic sense and creative eye to make their own sprigs bloom. This activity is great for building fine motor skills and strengthening finger muscles, and expressing an artistic idea in marker and tissue paper.
Abstract Art - We looked at examples of abstract art, and then created our own. (We made our artworks into the beautiful Mother's Day cards that the children brought home.)
Hats with Recycled Materials - We started with recycled materials and made brightly colored hats for our Mother's Day present! Before we brought them home, we tried them on and even had a fashion show! What fun!
