Universal Design for Learning
Nevada Joint Union High School District
Problem of Practice
Implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies to support the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process. The project will be district-wide, starting with a focus on Math, specifically Integrated 1. We will lead a cohort of teachers to support data collection, instructional walkthroughs, and best practices collaborations.
Goals
Increase teacher capacity and confidence to implement UDL in lessons and assessments
Increased student capacity and confidence to meet grade-level mathematics standards
Strategies
Selection of Participants: Assemble a cohort of Mathematics teachers, instructional coaches, and administrative staff who will be actively involved in the project.
Training: Conduct a UDL orientation and PLC best-practices workshop for the selected cohort.
Baseline Data Collection: Collect data on current student performance metrics and essential learning outcomes mastery for comparison and future assessment.
Learning Walks: Schedule and conduct instructional learning walks within the Integrated 1 classrooms. The purpose is to observe, gather data, and provide feedback on the integration of UDL strategies.
Peer Collaboration Sessions: Arrange bi-weekly peer collaboration meetings where teachers can discuss observations from the learning walks, share resources, and brainstorm solutions for identified challenges.
Ongoing Assessment: Use predetermined metrics, including academic performance, attendance, engagement, IEP progress, and parent feedback, to continuously evaluate the project's impact.
