Examination Board: CCEA
CCEA Level 2 Qualification in Occupational Studies
Grades equivalent A*- C
Occupational Studies allows learners to learn for work, through work and about work, and it provides the potential for this learning to take place in out-of-school contexts. This hands-on approach is ideal for those who prefer to develop their skills in a more practical, occupational environment.
Occupational Studies is both coherent and flexible and provides a good foundation from which to advance to competence-based post-16 courses.
The Occupational Studies specifications:
focus on occupations and employability;
enable progression to other courses, training and employment;
help to raise levels of achievement; and
emphasise learning by doing, which helps learners to develop the transferable skills needed in a changing and dynamic working environment.
Occupational Studies builds on the knowledge, understanding, and skills developed through the Learning for Life and Work area of learning.
Learners must complete two units from the same occupational area to achieve a qualification. Each unit is worth 50 percent of the overall qualification.
Students will undertake the two units below:
Creative styling on long hair (50%)
Creative blowdrying techniques on long hair (50%)
Units will cover areas such as:
Health and safety
Environmental practices within the salon
Careers within hairdressing industry

Styling knowledge
Structure of the hair
Marks are awarded as follows:
20% Theoretical knowledge
60% Practical skills (2 hairstyles per unit)
20% Self evaluation
All marks are awarded through portfiolo work done in class time.
