CCEA Home Economics: Food and Nutrition specification encourages students to develop knowledge and understanding of the science behind food.
Topics include: food provenance, food processing and production, macronutrients and micronutrients, government nutritional guidelines, and food safety.
Students develop practical skills in food preparation, cooking, and presentation. Pupils must be able to produce a 3 course menu in 3 hours for their Controlled Assessment in Year 12.
GCSE Food and Nutrition is exam based
Year 12 exam = 50%
Controlled Assessment = 50%
This course allows learners to acquire transferable skills for many career options and provides a solid foundation for a range of further or higher education courses.
Possible career options may include Food Scientist, Food Technologist, Dietitian, Nutritionist, Teacher,
Catering/Restaurant Manager, Hotel Manager, or Chef.
