Product & digital design technologies brings together a range of learning areas such as creative design, science, engineering, business studies, digital media, computing, electronics, materials technologies and entrepreneurship in a project-based learning environment.
This course provides an opportunity for both traditional technologies like web development, databases, software design/programming, multimedia, animation/3D modelling, video, graphic design, as well as emerging technologies like Virtual/Augmented reality. This course is well supported with cutting-edge equipment, like Laser cutters, CNC machines, 3D printers.
When you study here, you’ll see how collaboration truly helps to create ideas that shape our world.
The course starts with five weeks of learning skills through your chosen software i.e. Blender, Fusion360, Inkscape etc. This is an opportunity to develop all the skills that you'll need without any assessment or risk and have some fun.
After you have an idea of your own capabilities and the capabilities of the software, you'll decide on what you'll make for your project and undertake an Inquiry. Once you know all you need to know you will then design it.
After you finish the design you get to create what you have designed. This will be around 12 weeks of work where you will plan and develop what you designed, testing and getting feedback along the way to make it better.
By the end of term 3 you'll have your outcome finished.
During Term 3 you will prep and sit the derived grade exam for AS91899 during school exams. You will sit the NZQA exam for this in November.
*** YOU ***
To begin with you are going to create two things that reflect you.
Create your Alter Ego using Adobe Express Alter Ego Template. Adobe Express which is free when using your school account. As well as the images think about the fonts, colours and layout. Take off any of the 'help info' and replace it with some info about this character.
Complete one of the three tutorials below, using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is on the computers, you sign in using your school account. The first one is probably the 'easiest'. These need to be about you, so use the initial of your first name, take a pic of yourself and use images and words that reflect you!
Have some fun! Try out some different options.

We are going to spend the first half of Term 1 working through a variety of tasks and tutorials to hopefully develop your skill level further, and help you make decisions later on about what sort of project you want to spend the rest of the year on.
You are going to keep a record of your learning using this Skills Log. Update it as you go.
