The inaugural technology fair was a great success with about 100 year 10 students exhibiting their end of year projects. The projects ranged from videogames, podcasts, toys, animations, websites, software, engineering, electronics, stickers, and more. Students displayed their design process from planning to final outcome to their friends and whanau in the form of a poster board. The competition was extremely strong and lots of projects were in the running but finally seven projects got awards, one given out by each digital technology teacher and an overall project award that won the first Burnside Technology Fair trophy.
Thank you very much to all who were able to attend and show your support and especially to Thomas James winner of the Prime Minister’s Future Scientist Prize for 2019 who was our guest judge.

The Burnside High School e-velocity team dominated the 2020 race day. There was a good turnout with nearly 30 vehicles from schools. But Burnside absolutely dominated! We entered 5 teams, our best yet, and all 5 won at least one of their categories totaling 13 awards.
Thanks needs to go to Richard Smith who gave up some weekends and helped these guys in class as well. And, thanks to the Digital staff who have put up with carts all through X Block as we built these up and sorted them in the computer rooms!
Go Burnside.

Burnside High School students Isaac Siu, Joseph Grace and Nicholas Grace won the New Zealand Programming contest in the High School grade.
This contest runs every year as a pre-cursor to the world championships and provides a venue for New Zealand’s brightest programmers to test their skills against the best in the country.
Burnside’s top team, who called themselves “Steve++”, scored a massive 212 points, 52 points clear of their nearest rivals from Auckland and 100 points clear of the third place team from Macleans College. The achievement is quite outstanding for a high school team and would have placed them 2nd overall when compared to the scores in all grades including all university and adult open grade teams.
This result continues Burnside's good results in the national programming completion which were also won in 2018.
