Teacher Roles & Responsibilities

To continue to support their students during this necessitated period of learning at home, BSD teachers will continue to perform their primary role of designing, preparing and facilitating student learning experiences.

They will do so working remotely from their students, providing physical packets of learning resources where appropriate, using various technologies to connect and interact with their students across distance. reach across the physical distances between their own self and their students to connecting and checking in on a regular basis.

Teacher Responsibilities

BSD teachers are being supported with flexibility to work at various times throughout each day when needed based on their own needs and obligations during Shelter in Place.

Throughout the duration of Phase 2 Learning at Home, BSD teachers will:

  • Continue to work their full contract time to facilitate student learning and fulfill their professional duties

  • Engage students in learning through standards-based assignments, which may include new material, review, and enrichment activities

  • Utilize appropriate tech platforms to provide digital content and resources for student learning; where appropriate, prepare and provide physical materials as needed to support student learning

  • Monitor student progress towards Trimester 3 learning targets

  • Facilitate learning and interactions about learning through both asynchronous and synchronous modes

  • Maintain connections and engage with all their students through various modes of communication and interaction (e.g, email, messaging, video meetings, etc.)

  • Check in with students per our Check In protocol during home learning

  • Communicate regularly with parents

  • Respond to parent input and requests

Teacher Availability

Teachers are generally available Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 3:00 to respond to email, and respond to email within a 24 hour time period .

Teachers may choose to respond to parent emails after hours or on weekends, however, there should be no standing expectation of after hours communication from teachers/staff.
